Icing Smiles Cake

This cake was made for a young boy, as requested through the charity "Icing Smiles".  He was celebrating a birthday after having fought a hard battle with cancer.  His request was for a chocolate cake, with cherry filling.  He really wanted a theme that had anything do with the ocean.

Everything is edible.  Fondant fish and coral, butter cream icing and royal icing were used for the seal life and coral.  Ocean waves are boiled sugar candy.

Happy Birthday Axel!

Octopus Cake

My son just turned 11 and he requested an Octopus cake, even though his "Birthday Party Theme" was army/camo - 11 year old boys, who can figure them out?   It was a little daunting, but after a few hours and a few glasses of wine, I think I was able to accomplish something that looked like it crawled from the depths :)!  The cake is vanilla with chocolate ganache filling.  The arms are rice krispy treats, fondant and royal icing.  The cake is hand - painted with gel and powder icing color.

Disney Princess Dress Sugar Cookies

Princess cookies for a little princess.  These sugar cookies were made to brighten a little 3 year old girl's day.  She had been having a bit of a rough week and after seeing some pictures of her bright smile, after she received these sweet treats, it seems they did just that :)

Cake Pops

I tend to do a fair amount of baking for bake sales and donations of sorts, but that is really what I enjoy about the decorating process.  I love being able to make something that helps with another cause and puts a smile on someone's face.  These cake pops were made for a bake sale to raise money for the Boys and Girls club.
These ice cream cone cake pops are made using ice cream cones, tim bits and assorted chocolate, candy coating and sprinkles, as well as fondant for the cherries.

These Lego mini figure heads are cake pops, candy melts, fondant and edible markers as well as gel color for painting.  I had a difficult time getting the faces on the candy melts as the surface was a little waxy.  If anyone has any tips they would like to share on this process, I would love to hear them!

Okay, I couldn't resist with the Heisenberg cake pop / Lego mini figure head - this was really just an inside joke between my husband and I, as of course, we are Breaking Bad fans, but I couldn't resist!  He didn't make it to the bake sale :)

Halloween Sugar Cookies

I made these sugar cookies for both of my kids' classes at school this year.  I have to say, at about 10 pm, making 50+ decorated cookies started to feel a little ambitious.  What can I say though, my kids love it and that makes me happy!

Christmas Sugar Cookies

I have gotten a little behind on posting, so in the spirit of catching up, I thought I might post some of the decorated sugar cookies from last Christmas.

These Christmas snow globe cookies were done for a fundraiser bake sale.  I am a huge fan of Sweetambs (google her great cookies) and she has some lovely tutorials on decorating.  This design is hers, which I so graciously borrowed.  I didn't pipe the little gingerbread, these are pre-made icing appliqués from Wilton.
Love this little reindeer.  His eyes are not piped, but made of sugar candies.  Again, I believe the candy eyes are a Wilton product :)

Minecraft Birthday

If you have kids between the ages of 6 and 12, you may already know that Minecraft is a huge hit with this age group.  When my son asked me to make him a "dirt block" cake for his 10th birthday, I have to say I was a little intimidated.  My boys had tried to show me the "worlds" they made in this game before, and to be honest, I had no idea what I was looking at!  With a little help from my kids and a lot of internet inspiration, I think we ended up pulling off a pretty successful party.  Cake is vanilla with white chocolate ganache oreo filling.  The cake has right around 500 blocks that make up the dirt block pixels.  Pixels and characters are made of fondant.

Also, loving these iron crafts we did to make necklaces for all of the party guests!  These are perler beads and my kids had a great time trying out a lot of different characters.
