A Sweet N Sassy Birthday

I made this cake for a sweet little girl, celebrating her special day at Sweet N Sassy.  The request was for a cake purse with a puppy coming out of it.  They wanted the purse to be pink and the puppy to look like their very special puppy dog!  The cake was chocolate with chocolate ganache buttercream.  The puppy is made out of krispy treats and everything else is icing and fondant.  All edible.

Star Wars Wookie Cookies....

I made these for my son's Birthday treat for his class.   My kids both love Star Wars and I have to say that I had a lot of fun making these cookies!!  All the kids in class seemed to enjoy them too..even the girls ;)  Will definitely be making these again.

A Dog Birthday Cake...

No, not a cake shaped like a dog....but an actual cake made FOR a dog!  This was a cake I made for my dog's 9th Birthday.  She is getting up there in years and I thought she deserved a special treat for her special day :)  I made the cake out of some moist dog food.  I added some egg white and shaped the layers in cake pans.  I made the icing from mashed potato and some beet juice for the pink coloring.  The little paw prints on the top of the cake (that form the 9) are little dog treats.  My dog loved the cake...but in all honesty, she isn't a very fussy eater ;)

Luke Skywalker / Hoth Wampa Cake

I'm not even sure if people will know they are reading English with that post title...unless, of course, you are a huge Star Wars fan!  This cake was done for my son's 7th Birthday.  He loves, loves, loves Star Wars! And I love, love, love to make him happy :)  This is a vanilla cake with chocolate ganache filling, buttercream icing and fondant and krispy treat decorations!

A special day and lotsa dots!

This cake was made for a special couple, celebrating with friends and family, at a casual, out-door wedding celebration party.  The cake was created to match a dress worn by the daughter of the Bride at their ceremony.   A fun cake for a fun and wonderful family!

Peace, Love and a Cake....

This cake was made for an 8 year old's birthday!  She was in love with the idea of having a Peace symbol on top of her cake.  This was definitely the most important aspect of the cake for her:)  The birthday girl's favorite colors are purple and blue, so we incorporated this into the overall cake decor too!  This is a chocolate cake with chocolate buttercream filling.  All fondant covering and decorations.

Something "Wicked" this way comes......

Having fun making Halloween treats!  One of my kids' favorite time of the year and a great time to indulge in sweets of all kinds.  This week I spent my time making treats for the school.  The cupcakes were Pumpkin Spice with cinnamon cream cheese frosting, made for a "Wicked" themed teacher luncheon.  The fall themed cookies were made for Kindergarten snack time!

Baby Boy shower...

This cake was ordered for a shower to celebrate the birth of a beautiful baby boy!  I was asked to match the napkins that were used for the party.  In consultation with the host, we decided to do a round cake, with the napkin pattern around the edge and the newborn figure on top.

Hello My Pretty....Witch Fingers!

Okay, there is just something about these witch fingers that I love...I guess they, to me, are sort of a feast for the know, creepy and ugly, but very tasty and fun all at the same time.  Something about eating them sort of goes against the fibre of what we like to eat - things that look pretty and delicious!

I tried a different recipe this year, just a standard shortbread, but I did not refrigerate the dough prior to baking...needless to say, the first batch of witch fingers turned out to be very puffy and large.  Sort of like the witch ate some salt and then went for a walk in 100 degree weather - swollen, summer fingers!  I did the next batch of fingers very skinny.  If you are going to make these, you may want to bake a few at first just to make sure they are going to come out the size and shape that you want.  That way you can just make the necessary adjustments for the dough you already have instead of trying a different recipe.

To make these fingers, find a nice firm cookie recipe  You will not want the cookie to spread too much while baking.    I roll them out by hand, mark them with cuts and creases, then place a blanched, peeled almond for the finger nail and bake cookie according to recipe directions.  After the cookies have cooled from the oven, I lightly spray with green, edible color, dust some with cocoa in the creases and around the nails and decorate with red tinted, white chocolate, for blood.  You can always play around with them and make them as creepy or tame as you want them to be.  Always a lot of fun!

Another Fall Festival...

This was a cake that I made to donate to a cake walk at a local Fall Festival!  I love the apple barrel theme, it really captures the essence of the harvest as well as the brilliant fall colors!

New Orleans Saints

This cake was for a special boy's 10th birthday!  He really loves the New Orlean's Saints, the Houston Rodeo and on top of this is celebrating 4 years of being cancer free!  What a wonderful occassion.

Skateboard Birthday Cake

This cake was for a 13 year old birthday boy.  Him and his mom decided on a skateboard cake - something cool and not too kid like!  Good choice :)  This cake was a red velvet cake with cream cheese icing and krispy treat wheels!

Birthday Present cake

This cake was made for an 8 year old's birthday party.  She wanted birthday presents in pink and purple.  To get the most servings from the cake, I thought this was the best idea, rather than a couple of seperate presents on the cake board.  Very girlie and cute!

Getting Old Ain't for Sissies!

This was a smaller size "smash" cake.  I made it for a wife who wanted to surprise her husband with a funny cake for his birthday.  He loves to work out, so she wanted a cake that reflected that.  This is what we came up with!   Muscles and dumbell are made from krispy treats covered in fondant. All edible.

Sweet N Sassy birthday party

This cake was made for a little girl that was celebrating her birthday at Sweet N Sassy!   They sent me a few ideas and I tried to incorporate as many of them as I possibly could on the cake.  This is a chocolate cake with chocolate buttercream frosting.  Fondant and gumpaste accents, including the edible tiara.

Pirate theme birthday party!

This was made for a boy in my neighborhood.  He was having a pirate theme, swim party for his birthday.  Everything is edible and toppers are made from krispy treats and fondant.

Sponge Bob cake

Well....basically the title speaks for itself!  This Birthday Boy loves Sponge Bob and really wanted this for the theme of his Birthday. The family requested a plainly decorated cake with Sponge Bob toppers.  The cake is vanilla with butter cream frosting.  The toppers are made from krispy treats and fondant.  All edible :)

Baby Shower cake

This baby shower cake was made to match an invitation for the baby shower.  Unfortunately, the hostess didn't have a copy of the invite to share with me for the you will just have to take my word for it!

Luau Themed end of year party!

Made these cakes for a wonderful preschool in the area.  They had a luau theme end-of-the-year party.  This was split into two different celebrations.  I basically made the same cake, twice.  There are a few changes between each cake, but subtle.  These were made to match the school decor and colors for the party.

Puppy in a purse

This cake was made for a little girl who decided on the design.  This was my first attempt at sculpting a puppy - another great experience.  I guess I am task driven, as I find it is the best way for me to learn ;)

Muffins for Mom...

Made these for a wonderful, local preschool.  This was for Mother's day tea with mom and kids!    The theme was a 50's diner theme.

Make up Cake!

Made this for a birthday party - unfortunately, the party ended up being outdoors and it was over 90 degrees.  Used home made fondant and needless to say, after a half hour in humidity and heat this started to melt and ended up a little lopsided...looked like a topsy turvy cake - Lesson learned :)

Baby Shower Cookie Bouquet

Here is a cookie bouquet that was made for a baby girl baby shower.  There are 34 cookies in this bouquet, which makes for a pretty large bouquet!  There are half chocolate cookies and half vanilla cookies.  No two cookies are the same!

Baby Shoes Baby Shower cake.

This was a cake requested for a baby girl's baby shower.  There were at least 60 guests in attendance so they requested a large cake.  This is buttercream icing, with edible sugar pearl embelishments, fondant ribbon and bow and fondant baby shoes.  The request was that the colors match the invitation, which you can see in the background.
